Or perhaps old men with white beards, who are swinging their old pocket watches. Do you think that hypnosis is wicked, and that it can be used to brainwash people for the sole purpose of doing harm?
No matter how you view hypnosis, it is important to know the facts about it. Only then can you make a well-informed decision, as to whether hypnosis can help you or not.
Definition and Facts about Hypnosis
Hypnosis has been around for thousands of years in some form or the other. Yet, hypnosis seems mysterious to most of us. But the fact remains, that its effects have been documented throughout history. Hypnosis is also seen as a methodology to treat various diseases, which can’t be treated using conventional medicines. Thus, Clinical Hypnosis is being recognized as a very good treatment option by various medical institutes.
When you attend a hypnotic session, you enter into a trance state that is often called a ‘sleep-like’ state. You might not know this, but ‘Hypnosis’ actually comes from the word ‘Hypnos’, the Greek God of sleep. Hypnosis and sleep may seem similar, but in reality they are poles apart. The experiences that a person goes through under hypnosis are very different from what he/she goes through, while he/she is asleep. While you are asleep, you are in an unconscious state. This is where the main difference lies between sleep and hypnosis. When you are hypnotized, the trance state that you enter, is far more focused. This trance state can be identified by the unique alpha brainwaves. When a person is in a trance, he/she can easily accept and implement suggestions.
You might be a little concerned with hypnotic therapy, since it appears that there are high chances of getting brain washed under a trance. But the fact of the matter is that if you are not willing to enter the sleep-like state, no one can do a thing. No matter what the hypnotist does, he/she will not succeed in hypnotizing you. Any one of us can be hypnotized. You might be surprised to learn that we enter into a hypnotic state almost every day! Remember the last time you saw an engrossing movie, or read a brilliant book? When you are totally engrossed in an activity, or are daydreaming, your brain generates alpha brainwaves. Thus, it implies that your body is relaxed and you have entered a very light hypnotic state.
When we look at the statistics, it is said that about 5% of the population can be easily hypnotized. But about 15% of the population is very difficult to hypnotize. The reason being, this section of the population does not believe in hypnosis and is highly skeptical about it. When it comes to the ease with which we can be hypnotized, the remainder of the population lies in the central belt.
Hypnosis can be used to produce some wonderful changes in your life. If you suffer from chronic pain or insomnia, hypnosis is most certainly worth a shot. Not just this, it can also increase your motivation and creativity. Hypnosis helps tune the subconscious mind, so that you can achieve your goals much faster.
